2 weeks along!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

We made Ethopian food! We bought the spices and the bread from Kukulu in Rogers Park. We made Shiro, Zilzil tibs (basically just thinly sliced steak with berbere spice, peppers and onions), a salad and creamed corn. It is customary to eat Ethiopian food with your hands. You tear off a piece of Injera (the bread) and scoop up some of the food. Yum!

morning glories

on the left is a picture of earth - suspended in sunlight - taken from the edge of our solar system by the Voyager satellite at the end of its recordable journey. everyone we've ever loved - everything that we've experienced - happened on that tiny little speck. on the right is a picture of my first spring seedling popping up out of the ground. everything that little plant is going to be is contained in that little tiny speck of nothing growing in the dirt. kinda neat.

here's the quote from Carl Sagan- Pale Blue Dot:
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity -- in all this vastness -- there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
buy the book  and read it- its awesome

yummy fun time with peeps. thousands of peeps lined up to audition for the video you will see below - it was pretty amazing.

After a long and hard day full of auditions this special peep was chosen as our winner.

(no peeps were injured in the making of this video - microwaves actually help peeps grow as is clearly demonstrated here in the little video)
naked peeps - kinda weird
